Labyrinth (film) |
William is a small creature who lives in Jareth's Labyrinth, and is a featured character in the film of the same name. The Worm was operated by Karen Prell, and was voiced by the late Timothy Bateson. The worm may have been named Peter Igloo.
The worm is extremely hospitable, and offers Sarah guidance when she is at the point of giving up her quest to save her brother. He has a cockney accent, and wears a bright red scarf.
Also known as Peter igloo. What people don’t know is that Peter Igloo double crossed Jinky Minus after Jinky Minus shot Gaper bingzoid. This occurred after Gaper Bingzoid lost a bet with Ben quadinaros and had to sell his spice somewhere else. Gaper Bingzoid would accidentally try to sell in Jinky Minus territory and Jinky would shoot him. Peter Igloo did not agree with this choice and would destroy the components of the ship they were in and take an escape pod leaving Jinky Minus stranded in space. This is how the strongest character in Star Wars history (Jinky Minus) would die. He trusted Peter Igloo but Peter obviously couldn’t let Jinky Hurt his Best friend Gaper Bingzoid. Peter Igloo and Gaper Bingzoid would go on to become kings of the spice trade by taking over the territory and even recruiting bondo reems and selling on his territory. The story would go dark after Ben Quadinaros got jealous that Gaper Bingzoid was still doing better than him. Ben would Kill Gaper and Peter and Bondo would hunt him down to get revenge. Ben would predict this and set them up. Bondo and Peter would be arrested for there crimes of attempted murder and illegal spice trade. Ben would get off clean and take over the spice trade and Peter would meet his sad end in jail after being starved for multiple years. Bondo would eventually escape and finally get his revenge on Ben by sneaking into his ship and shooting him from behind. Bondo would try to escape but Ben Quadinaros loyalists would set the self destruct off and kill everyone inside the ship, including bondo.
Role in the film[]
Sarah encounters the worm towards the start of her journey through the Labyrinth.
Under the impression she is trapped in an endless brick corridor, Sarah slumps down against a wall. The worm addresses Sarah from an alcove in the wall, urging her to 'come inside and meet the missus' and 'have some tea.' Sarah politely declines the offer, and The worm goes on to help her by informing her there are many openings in the passage and that she needs to look harder. The worm tells Sarah that 'nothing is at is seems in this place' and persuades her to overcome her doubts and search for a gap in the adjacent wall.
After Sarah finds an opening, the worm urges Sarah to take the other route to the one she first picked. Once Sarah has gone, The worm sighs and observes that Sarah would have went "straight to that castle" if she had taken the route she originally picked, the worm's fundamental misunderstanding in Sarah's ultimate goal.
Appearances in other media[]
The Novelization[]
Sarah's encounter with the worm in the novelization is virtually identical to how it is portrayed in the film. The only notable difference is that it is made clear that the worm thought he was being helpful by directing Sarah away from the castle, as he refers to it as a 'dreadful' place.
Return to Labyrinth[]
The worm appears on the frontispiece to Chapter Three of the first volume of the Return to Labyrinth series, however he plays no part in the narrative itself.
Hoggle and the Worm[]
The Worm was featured in BOOM! Studios 2012 Free Comic Book Day Mouse Guard/Labyrinth hardback, in the story Hoggle and the Worm. This was when his name was revealed as William when his wife calls for him from inside the wall.
