Røem Bååbå is a goblin that appears in the 1986 movie Labyrinth as well as other pieces of media in the Labyrinth franchise.

Appearence[]

Røem Bååbå is a stout goblin with a dragon-like face and a beard hanging from his chin. He wears a helmet with two horns protruding from it, and has three fingers on each hand.

In the film, he has a piece of armor that goes across his back, he has a leather tunic and boots which end with a point at each foot.

In The Goblins of Labyrinth, he looks more or less the same, except he has a shield, a weapon of some kind, and one of the horns on his helmet is separated by two segments held together by a wire of some kind. This imperfection only appears after his cannon blows up in the film.

In Labyrinth: 30th Anniversary Special, he has several appearances.

In Humongous Two, he has purple skin and is wearing the same helmet as The Goblins of Labyrinth. He retains his leather tunic, back armor and boots, however his chin beard is missing. He's also noticeably less detailed, having a more basic ogre-like face rather than a dragon-like one. In Sir Didymus's Grand Day, he looks about the same as he does in the film.

In the Film[]

Røem Bååbå doesn't have a major role in the film, only serving as one of Jareth's minions. He is seen in the beginning of the film with a lot of other goblins, possibly hiding in Sarah's closet, overhearing her as she tries to say the right words[1]. He is often told to "shut up" in this scene by the other goblins[1]. He is also seen in the background of the 'Magic Dance' scene along with most of the other goblins[1].

Later, towards the end of the film, he is seen in the goblin battle firing Fødder out of a cannon several times. However, one of Ludo's rocks plugs it up causing it to backfire. He states he just fired him afterwards[1].

Finally, he's seen at the end, partying in Sarah's room with most of the cast after she says she needs them[1].

In The Goblins of Labyrinth[]

In The Goblins of Labyrinth, it is revealed that Røem Bååbå is the Goblin Prime Minister since the Great Collapse of Good Governance[2]. It is also revealed that he is beloved among goblins (for whatever reason)[2]. It's likely because he is inhabited by the World's Largest Flea (whose name is Betsy apparently)[2]. Betsy would hop around the room, and if they jump over a goblin, they are rewarded with a financial endowment equivalent to how much gold can fit in their right nostril[2]. If the flea bumps into a goblin however, they are charged with violating Røem Bååbå's Hair Space and sentenced to execution[2]. However, since the 1896 Abolition of Death Act, execution means being forced to lie in bed all day when it's raining and you've got a snuffle that makes you feel a bit under the weather[2]. It is unknown if he retains this position in the film.

In the Anniversary Special[]

Røem Bååbå has a bit more of a role in Humongous Two. He is the new chief and is inspecting the titular Humongous Two[3]. He asks how the pilot would get snacks should he get hungry before being informed that they are under attack by the original Humongous, which is somehow piloting itself[4]. He constantly mispronounces Shinjee's name as "Binjee" which gives him the motivation to get back up and take down Humongous One, using Fødder to destroy it[5][6]. Røem Bååbå then tells his men to give Shinjee a bucket of mango slices from his personal reserve[6].

Røem Bååbå only makes a cameo in Sir Didymus's Grand Day, where the goblin army is battling Didymus in a "frank and open exchange of ideas and culture.[7]"

Trivia[]

  • A goblin that slightly resembles Røem Bååbå also appears in Humongous Two in the 30th Anniversary Special, though it's unlikely that it's him.
