Career

Bowie first came to prominence in 1969 when his single Space Odditty made the top five in the UK Singles Chart. This success was followed by a lull of several years, which was broken upon the release of the hit album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars in 1972. The album resulted in international fame for Bowie, who went on to conduct tours across the world.

Bowie's first major acting role came in 1976 with the lead role in Nicholas Roeg's science fiction film The Man Who Fell To Earth. Bowie won praise for his performance, and went on to appear in The Hunger (1983) and Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence (1983) as well as Labyrinth in 1986.

Bowie's last album, Reality, was released in 2003. Since that time, Bowie has only performed occasionally, and is considered by some commentators to be in retirement.

Personal Life

Married to international super-model Iman Abdulmajid in 1992, they have one child together Alexandria Zahra Jones who was born in 2001. Bowie also has another child, Duncan Jones (born 1971) from an earlier marriage to Angela Barnet.
